Well yeah. Nothing wrong with a bit of mutation. I mean I travel with a ghoul for a bodyguard. I don't discriminate.
But so far as I've seen the Super Mutants were an experiment by the government that kind of just...went wrong I'm guessing? Not natural mutations I suppose. I suppose the only danger from that sort of mutation is if you figured out whatever made them.
So yeah. Lots of radiation tends to hang around after a nuclear holocaust. Which leads to lots of other mutations if you don't take your radaway...and now I sound like a psa.
