Quest One: Not this place again

 [Mae walks up in a bed. That alone is enough to set off alarm bells. She remembers very distinctly going to sleep last night, leaning against a half destroyed wall with a dog next to her. And considering how...well non destroyed the room was looking.... 

She very quickly snuck out of bed and started to look around the house. Grabbing a baseball bat from the small boy's room as she went. Never hurt to have a weapon when you've been kidnapped.  She looks outside.



......well this wasn't good. She quickly goes back inside and get's dressed, interogates some drones and locates the phone.]

Dr. Braun, if you're there. We need to talk because I'm pretty sure being back in this place is impossible considering everyone died last time. 

[And with that she hangs up. She's sure if he is behind this...and who else would be? It's just like last time...though she admits it's ...different and slightly more impossible...that if he was behind it, he'd be calling back to gloat at any moment. Until then.  
 

Mayfield there is a woman wandering around carrying a baseball bat like a weapon. You can find her.

A. On her lawn examining the grass, or her arm. They...feel more real then the simulation. But there's also colour here, so maybe it's just a tech upgrade. 

 

B. Going through your mailbox or garbage can. Hey, who knows what valuables you might have thrown away....like this bottle cap, score!

 

C. Interrogating young drone girls at the playground. Seriously, which one of you is in charge here?

 

D. Looking through windows of peoples houses to see if they're abandoned. Aka: where the hell is the failsafe to this place]

[ Ilsa gives a slight twitch at the "fill something out" part, but she shakes her head. ]

We all were, in one way or another. No, this is the information that the ones who have been here the longest have put together. What has happened in the town, and a little of what has been tried so far.

[ She spreads out the pamphlet from Dist the Rose and the map of key locations around town. Then Ilsa is struck by a thought. ]

Oh, wait - language hasn't drifted too far for you to read the local language has it?

[ Ilsa shrugs, ] There's people here from all over time and space, and sometimes the town doesn't give them all the tools they need.

[ She spreads out the map, and points out their current location with a first aid cross. ]

We're here. If you can't get to the hospital or church when you're hurt, one of us can likely help, if it's to be done. I've got trauma treatment experience, and Hakkai is a healer. The kids are getting some first aid training when I can catch them.

[ She marks the map in a few more spots, with the locations of the other healers on the list of medical practitioners. ]

There's other healers in town, at these locations. The pamphlet is by Dist the Rose, with the known history of the town. He works at the Library, if want to get more details from him. He'll likely want to know the history from your world, too.

I'm sorry - I do tend to be a bit overwhelming, but a lot of this is the stuff I found out my first week.

Good. That's your assigned bivouac. The powers that be will expect you to sleep there most of the time.

[ Ilsa shrugs, ] I've rattled on at you enough, but I suspect I've left things out. Ask, and if I don't know the answer, I'll try to help you find out who does.

[ She stops herself from babbling on by drinking more coffee. ]

Actually I was pretty far away from home when I got snatched up.

[Taking a gulp of water.]

So....no one knows how we were brought here?

Not yet. That's one of the things the think tank is working on. So far, I've only been able to evaluate the drone behaviors. But I've been here two months.

[ Ilsa finally twigged on her visitor's address. ]

Wait, they assigned you to Carter's house? I am sorry.

You could have done worse, that's true, but - the few times I've talked to him have been more entertaining than educational. He gives off the guardian vibe, but....

[ She shrugs apologetically, ] He's a nice enough guy, just not all there, it seems.

[ She scratches her temple with a rueful grin. ]

[Taking a sip of water. People loved gossip anywhere it seemed.]

So we get stuff back huh?

Yeah. If you weren't a baseline human before you got here, you might get some of those abilities back. It could be they give you your favorite tool, your best weapon or your worst nightmare. It's a crap-shoot really.

So.

How dangerous would you say this place is. On a day to day basis. Should I find a weapon.

[Glances at bat.]

...another weapon? Would they even sell guns here?

Day to day? Not bad. Boring, even. But there are times when you might want a gun. Problem is the drone clerks will not sell them to anyone but an adult male. However, if you go here, [ pointing to the rec center on the map, ] some of the guys have set up a practice range. Talk to the ones that aren't drones, and you can probably arrange a purchase, if Carter won't buy one for you.

On the other hand, knives don't jam. [ Ilsa taps the map again at 339 Brady Lane. ] There's a forge here, and a young man that knows his business. Just listen to the phones for when Hiccup says he's working.

Knives are good, but if I have to use a melee weapon I prefer a bat. You don't have to get as close then.

[ Ilsa nods again. ]

He also does swords, but I haven't been trained for those.

Yeah, those are hard to use.

He did make a really sweet knife for me, though. Good balance and fits my hand well.

I'm hoping he puts out a call for work later this week, I'd like to have a few more.
